Jonathan Burke is currently president of Laguna College of Art & Design (LCAD) in Laguna Beach, California, a dually accredited, degree-granting college focusing on drawing, painting, sculpture, design and digital media, game art, illustration and animation. From 1985 to 2011 Burke was the dean of fine arts and gallery director at LCAD. During those years, he also taught freshman through graduate levels in fine arts and continued his career as a professional exhibiting artist. While serving as LCAD’s gallery director, he brought a Rodin figure sculpture exhibition to the LCAD college gallery.
Jonathan’s background is in representational drawing and painting with still life and landscape as his main emphasis. He holds B.F.A. degree in painting from Kansas City Art Institute and M.F.A. degree in painting from Boston University. He was dean of visual communication at LCAD from 2000 to 2002. Burke is a native Kansas City, but has lived in New York, Boston and San Francisco. He and his wife Linda have one child, Alexander, a film and TV composer. The Burkes’ interests include visiting galleries and museums.
