Description
This course is an introduction to painting the human figure in an outdoor setting. Unlike most traditional classes that teach an approach to figure painting under a controlled light source, this class will explore methods and techniques of painting the figure when faced with the unexpected and changing light of day. An approach to color mixing, capturing natural light effects, and Plein air painting methods as they apply to the figure will be explored. Some prior plein air or figure painting experience is encouraged, but not required. While this class will be taught in oil, students are welcome to use other mediums like gouache and acrylic, as the same principles apply.

Materials List:
This is a Plein air painting course, meaning we will be painting outdoors on location, so you will need to provide your own travel easel and set up. Below are links to reputable companies where you can purchase if you do not already own one.
We will be going over my preferences for “gear” and how to set up your easel on the first day.
Travel Easels: I use the Strada Mini with the plexiglass palette. Please note you will need to purchase the tripod that attaches to your chosen palette.
