2026 Summer Abroad

Thinkers in Exile: Dante, Leonardo, Artemisia

The Laguna College of Art and Design, Global Tuscany – Thinkers in Exile: Dante, Leonardo, Artemisia program brings students to Florence, Italy in Summer 2026 for immersion into the heart of pivotal artistic movements. Led by Professor Marcella Stockstill, in partnership with CET which includes housing, organizing regular co-curricular activities and excursions, while supporting student and faculty health and safety throughout the program.

For three weeks, students enrolled in Global Tuscany-Thinkers in Exile will study and live among the environments and atmospheres peopled by Dante, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Sofonisba, Artemisia, Galileo, and a cast of other notable artists and Florentine personalities of the day. Inside and outside the classroom, we’ll come face to face with cultural materials and the aesthetics of the exilic mind-objects, artwork, literature, architecture, and discoveries of remarkable thinkers who made their most important contributions while living in states of profound displacement. Immersive living, cultural site visits, day excursions, and hands-on workshops bring our lectures and discussions to life.

International Partnerships

Breda University of Applied Sciences
Creative Media and Game Technologies

LCAD has established an exciting partnership with Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, home to one of Europe’s leading Creative Media and Game Technologies programs. Through this unique reciprocal exchange, students from both institutions come together for a semester of intensive collaboration, working side-by-side to create games, develop art assets, and gain hands-on experience with professional production pipelines. LCAD students travel to Breda’s cutting-edge facilities while Breda students join our creative community in Southern California, fostering a truly global learning experience that prepares the next generation of game developers for the international industry.

Step into the world of Renaissance masters. For more than 10 years, LCAD has offered students the chance to earn 3 studio art credits at the renowned Florence Academy of Art through their exclusive Summer Workshop Series. Experience authentic atelier training in one of Europe’s most stunning artistic capitals, where centuries of creative heritage meet contemporary practice. Each year, FAA awards one deserving LCAD student a full scholarship covering workshop tuition.

LCAD design students push the boundaries of creativity and technology through collaborative summer workshops at two of China’s premier design institutions: Jiangnan University and Tongji University. Working alongside undergraduate and graduate students from across China, LCAD participants explore cutting-edge applications of artificial intelligence in design, merging innovation with cultural insight. In summer 2025, students spent 14 days at Jiangnan University in Wuxi, China, participating in “AI — Empowering Digital Innovation in Traditional Culture,” where they discovered how emerging technologies can honor and reimagine cultural heritage through contemporary design practice.

Semester Exchange Programs

AICAD Exchange

Through the AICAD Exchange program, full-time students who are attending one of the 31 participating AICAD schools, have the unique opportunity to attend another school within AICAD for one semester at no additional cost or loss of credit. The AICAD Exchange offers students the experience and benefit of studying at a different school and living in a different geographic area. By sharing resources and facilities, AICAD colleges offer unparalleled educational opportunities to students at AICAD schools
