The Art of Creating Motion + Emotion

LCAD’s Animation program blends tradition and innovation, empowering students to explore the full spectrum of animated storytelling. Students choose one of two tracks to shape their path: Character Animation or Experimental Animation. The BFA program is studio-focused, rooted in strong traditional training while embracing new approaches to the craft. Across both tracks, students develop their personal voice, take creative risks, and grow as inventive storytellers, supported by a curriculum that balances technical foundation with bold artistic vision.

Students who choose Character Animation immerse themselves in classical, hand-drawn 2D animation, mastering gesture, timing, weight, and personality to create believable, emotionally resonant characters, while working across the full production pipeline with industry-standard 2D and 3D tools. Students who choose Experimental Animation explore the techniques defining the future of independent and applied animation, working across Paperless 2D, Digital Puppetry, 3D, Stop Motion, and Visual Effects to craft distinctive styles for interactive media, music videos, game animation, and independent narrative series.

Animation Highlights

The LCAD Animation program teaches the art of creating not only motion, but emotion over time; as well as cutting-edge techniques and skillsets. Students can choose between two Animation tracks: Character Animation and Experimental Animation.
