An exploration of the range in direct painting with various emphases including portraiture. Students will work through paintings of various durations, all confined to a single day and anywhere from around 20 minutes all the way up to a few hours. Students will work from life, under a variety of lighting, from development of their own concepts, and from live figure models. Historical examples of direct painting will be examined as appropriate. Level 2 students will have the opportunity to experiment further along established lines of inquiry.
