Other Skies Tell Other Stories

Laguna College of Art + Design’s Gallery is proud to present Other Skies Tell Other Stories, a solo exhibition by Iranian-American artist Soody Sharifi. Her work explores the complexities of identity and the tensions of living between two cultures. Since 1999, Sharifi has examined American, Iranian, and Muslim perspectives on modernity and tradition, focusing on youth culture as a site of self-expression and transformation.
Through staged and documentary photography in mixed media, she captures students, punk rock groups, and LGBTQ+ youth, challenging narrow media portrayals and reimagining Islamic identity beyond stereotype.
