A global, historical survey of the development of architecture from prehistory to the current day, this course considers the important sites, structures, and monuments of civilization. Technology, geography, socio-economic limitations, religious sensibilities, and ecological concerns among other factors will be considered as influences on the function, aesthetics, and design of architecture worldwide. Pedagogical methods include slide lectures, exams, essays, visual analyses, hands-on projects, and field trips.
