MoCA/Nat’l Museum Day

Did you know last saturday, September 24th, was National Museum Day? Me neither. But a fellow art nerd in line at the MoCa did and he didn’t fail to remind me….after we paid admission. Either way, I was happy to be at a museum on National Museum Day even if I didn’t know it was such a day. My mom came to CA from AZ this weekend to spend time with me for my birthday and suggested we go to see a museum in LA together. Great idea, Mom. So we... View Article

Step right Up.

Long time no post! -Not really, but kindov! alright, so this week has been pretty great for me. Maybe I’m just in a pretty good mood today, BUT either way, i’m going to tell you about it. I attended today’s Illustration meeting, with Bobby Skelton as the illustration representative, and I gotta say, he’s definitely the man for the job.  I’m going to recap over some ideas we all discussed during the talk and hopefully you can reach him if you have any input, at bobbyskelton(AT)lagunacollege.edu   he’s a very... Get the Booty

What up guys? School is now is full gear and I’ve been pretty busy with my 6 classes which are: Package Design 1, Internet Design 2, 3D Art 2, Modern & Contemporary, Motion After Effects 1, and History of Graphic Design. Things I have been working on this past week: Magic Number Game Yes. A Magic Number Game. That’s exactly what it sounds like a game of magic numbers. Actually it’s a little logic game targeted towards kids that the Internet 2 class and I are working on. The object... View Article

interview IV

This week I remembered the last interview I made on this blog was so long ago. I tried to think of someone interesting, someone different, someone I really wanted to talk to that I could try and contact for the blog.    I sent out an e-mail to Blaise Larmee. A comic artist who I really enjoy. He has written a comic called Young Lions that I highly recommend not only for the really attractive, sensitive drawings but also for the witty sarcasm in his writing. His new web-comic, 2001, is... Swingin’

well.  the past week has been interesting. i got sick for three days, and therefore have been feelin pretty crappy.  BUT… on the bright side, I was given a site to share with you. Micheal Savas chair of Illustration recommends this site, and I do too. http://escapefromillustrationisland.com/ Escape from Illustration Island showcases innovative illustration, pushes good advice for those of us learning, and does it all rather humorously. It also has separate segments for tutorials as well as articles to help inspire. The articles and tutorials often link out to... View Article

Identity.

So. week three:  heres my in-class painting i did today. it was a lot of fun! i normally dont show work this frequently, but because of the lack of studio classes i have, i try to make the most of my time and work i produce for them.   i didnt post week two, because i posted twice week one, and felt silly posting every single thing that happened to me. so ill share now! to be honest week two was mostly reading and writing, as the bulk of my... Waking Up

Getting back into the swing of things after summer is going easier than I anticipated despite having the majority of my classes in the morning. My classes all start at 10 a.m. save for my History of Graphic design class which is at 9:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Needless to say, I’d never thought I’d be having a class at 9:30 on a Saturday morning. The reason why we’re having class on the weekend is that our teacher is a working professional with a 9-5 work day weeks and the... View Article

nomon sirton

Two weeks deep into school and I think I’m getting sick…back to school germs, the worst. Wash your hands. Wash my hands. Anyway, last weekend I went to the Norton Simon (again) and I mostly just breathed in the old masters and then booked it towards all my favorites. Goya, Rusha, Nauman…but this time I remembered out of all the Degas there, to look more closely at the horse sculpture studies. Those horses are so awesome. So descriptive of the nature of the animal. I sketched one, “Horse With Head... View Article

a present.

So it’s the end of week one, and so far things look good. The workload is easier than i’d like at the moment, but i know not to say anything, as things will get busy REALLY soon.   Monday I had fig. painting II with perin mahler. He introduced a few new concepts, which excites me more than you’d know! We started off painting monochromatic portraits of the model, using  titanium white, ultramarine blue and burnt sienna, which was surprising to me… and made me want to start doing my... View Article
