Scholarship Funds
Donations designated to the LCAD Scholarship Fund help LCAD attract and retain the best and brightest students, regardless of their financial backgrounds. LCAD Scholarships are awarded based on need and merit and often are a student’s gateway to a degree from LCAD and to a career in the creative arts. Scholarship support may take the form of one-time gifts, recurring annual contributions, or endowed funds. Annual and recurring scholarships of $1,000 and above are awarded in the name of the donor (or the donor’s designee) and generally are distributed in the academic year after they are received.
Endowed scholarships are funded with contributions that are invested in perpetuity by the College. A portion of the interest earned is awarded annually. Endowed Scholarships of $25,000 or more will bear the name of the donor (or the donor’s designee).

Laguna College of Art + Design (LCAD) feels that it is important to make our students’ experience as complete and meaningful as possible. Thanks to the generosity of Laguna Beach resident and philanthropist, Suzi Chauvel, LCAD is able to offer sophomore and junior students the opportunity to travel abroad and to ignite their passions to become creative leaders.
As a junior in college, Ms. Chauvel was fortunate to receive a fellowship to study design in Copenhagen. Today, Suzi still vividly remembers the experience as the semester that changed her life.
This annual scholarship is available to one LCAD student per year. The scholarship may be applied toward either a semester or a summer term at any accredited, LCAD-approved, art institution in the world, including, but not limited to, Student Arts College International (SACI); NHTV BREDA University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands (BREDA); or the Florence Academy of Art. Students must apply to the Office of Academics annually to be eligible for this opportunity. For details about how to participate in this life-altering experience, please contact LCAD’s Office of Academics.
In 2015, Laguna College of Art + Design celebrated Jonathan Burke’s 35 years at the College by contributing to an endowed scholarship fund in his name. LCAD Trustees, supporters, family and friends attended the event in support of Jonathan Burke’s contributions to LCAD as both a longtime professor of Fine Arts and the past President of the College.
In 2020, the scholarship was renamed as the Roxanne Rankin + Jonathan Burke Endowed Scholarship as a testament to their devotion to the students of LCAD and their support of equity, inclusion, and social justice. The scholarship was specifically designated to provide vital support to LCAD’s under-represented Black students regardless of their financial backgrounds, and will be awarded to these students to ensure increased representation within the LCAD student body. Secondary factors for recipients will be based on need and merit. The intent is for this scholarship to be a student’s gateway to a degree from LCAD and to a career in the creative arts. Scholarship support may take the form of one-time gifts, recurring annual contributions, or endowed funds. Scholarships are distributed in the academic year after they are received.
