Dustin Mackay studied illustration at Brigham Young University, earning a BA degree in 2006. After a year of designing scrapbook materials, he made the switch to full-time freelance as an illustrator and designer. He went on to study at Gnomon School of Visual Effects and in 2011 launched his career in the entertainment industry with the Hollywood-based studio Persistence of Vision, where he contributed previz animation for such blockbuster films as “Cowboys and Aliens,” “G.I. Joe 2,” and “Percy Jackson 2.” He went on to work at Benthos Studios in Hollywood, where he was involved in all stages of production for an animated TV series. For next 6 years Dustin worked as an animator, previz and story artist at DisneyToon Studios, developing animation for the films "Planes, Planes: Fire and Rescue” and "Tinkerbell: Legend of the Neverbeast.”
After leaving Disney in 2018, Dustin opened his own studio and has since worked for clients like True Car, Disney, and others. In addition to teaching at LCAD and Art Center, Dustin maintains an illustration career and recently illustrated Superfail, a graphic novel published by running press.
