LCAD to Open Student Work and Exhibition Spaces during Laguna Beach Summer Festival Season

Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD), one of the nation’s top colleges of art and design, announced the addition of open studio spaces for students of its BFA programs in Drawing & Painting and Graphic Design + Digital Media, as well as a studio with a green screen for compositing images, a video editing bay, and a dedicated studio for extended reality design (XR-D) at 805 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach, CA. The space is near LCAD’s student housing and will be served by the campus shuttle.

“To meet the demand of emerging technologies, the College is expanding its course offerings, and we’re very proud to open this dedicated, state-of-the-art workspace to students of both majors.” said LCAD President Jonathan Burke. “Our new XR-D Studio provides our Graphic Design + Digital Media students a rare resource for AR/VR education and experimentation. These students will not only create in AR/VR outside of their regularly scheduled classes, but they also will help to innovate within this burgeoning field.”

From July 5 through August 15, 2018, during the peak of Laguna Beach’s 2018 summer festival season, the new space also will be home to LCAD Gallery 805. Here, LCAD students will operate, exhibit and sell original works of art daily, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. The gallery’s inaugural exhibition will be The Next Wave: New Masters of Fine Art, an exhibition that will feature works by students, candidates, and recent graduates of LCAD’s MFA programs in Drawing and Painting.

The art exhibited will be curated by LCAD’s Gallery/Collections Manager Bryan Heggie, who opened this opportunity to all LCAD undergraduate and graduate students across all majors including Animation, Art of Game Design, Drawing, Drawing & Painting, Illustration, Illustration in Entertainment Design, Game Art, Graphic Design + Digital Media, and Painting. Prints and sculptures also will be on display. All works exhibited will be available for purchase. All proceeds from sales (minus credit card transaction fees) will go to students.

Admission to LCAD Gallery 805 is free, and the public is welcome to visit and to shop during the summer art festival season. Visitors may use the Laguna Beach Trolley North Laguna/Canyon route.
