Hot Jam 2018

Hot Jam 2018 turned up the heat at Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) on Sunday, September 30th. Over 40 students from LCAD, Norco College, Riverside City College, Irvine Valley College, Chapman University, and California State University, Fullerton turned up for the event hosted by LCAD and Norco College. Participants were divided into four teams to design a game in ten hours to the theme of “Turn up the Heat.”

 

Event sponsors were Unity, Blizzard, and Broken Circle Studios.

 

In step with the theme, the winning team's game was titled “Turnip the Heat” and featured an animated turnip trying not to be cooked. By popular vote, the winning team's members were awarded Unity Pro Licenses.

 

Team "Turnip The Heat" was comprised of: Vincent Dehakiz (Norco College), Andrew Hathaway (LCAD), Josh Johnson (Norco College), Christopher Reed (Norco College), Ryan Riggs (LCAD), Ian Ring (LCAD), James Spencer (Riverside City College), Dan Khanh Tran (LCAD), Ubaldo Vasquez (Riverside City College)

 

There was a raffle that included items donated and purchased by contributions from Blizzard Entertainment. Broken Circle Studios donated two Nintendo Switches, and Chair of LCAD's BFA program in Game Art, Gavin Rich, donated Steam Keys. All in all, the event proved a win/win for everyone attending.
