Multi-Disciplinary Approach
LCAD’s Graphic Design + Digital Media program is print, advertising, web, 3D, motion, video, iPad development, package and action sport design.
Our program’s multidisciplinary approach recognizes that a creative designer in today’s world must develop solutions that move seamlessly between print, web, motion and video. A graduate of the design program will be adept with traditional theory yet lead in the innovative use of technology.
The LCAD Graphic Design major offers programs in Graphic Design, Graphic Design w/Illustration Emphasis and Graphic Design w/Action Sport Design Emphasis.
By training our students to become visual problem solvers and critical thinkers who are able to communicate in visually compelling ways, we are empowering them to be adaptive and successful in an always-evolving industry.
As a result, LCAD graphic design graduates have gone on to work in a range of fields from advertising, branding, web design, broadcast, action sport design, visual merchandising, publishing, packaging and print.
Their work has built the brands of ESPN, NIKE, Target, Google, Hurley, Fox Television, PacSun, MSNBC, Kawasaki, Surfer Magazine, the Syfy Channel and the Smithsonian among many others. Over 98% of LCAD’s recent Graphic Design graduates work in their chosen field, with most finding employment through LCAD prior to graduation.

Dana Herkelrath
DEPARTMENT CHAIR AND PROFESSOR
Dana Herkelrath is the Chair of the undergraduate Graphic Design + Digital Media Department and a Professor of Visual Communication Design. Dana brings more than 25 years of experience as a designer in Brand Identity, Packaging, Environmental Graphic Design, Merchandising, Marketing and Design Consulting. Her Background includes working with clients in entertainment, medicine, urban community development, education, publishing, hospitality and international aid organizations.
