Laguna College of Art and Design Community Education: Summer 2017 »

Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) is pleased to offer a range of extension courses year-round that enhance personal or professional development. These non-accredited courses are offered on our historic Main Campus in Laguna Beach’s beautiful Laguna Canyon. Course times are intended to accommodate even the busiest schedules.

Painting Explorations
5-Week Course
DATES: Every Saturday, June 17 – July 29, 2017 (No Classes Saturday, June 24th and Saturday, July 1st)
TIME: 9-12 PM
STUDIO: MC2
AGES: 16 and above

Our classically trained faculty teaches painting techniques and compositions, placing emphases on developing foundational skills and on pursuing a personal approach to painting from still life and from photographic references. Students receive individualized instruction and are encouraged to work at their own pace. In-class demonstrations will be done using oil paints, but students may use the painting mediums of their choice. Students furnish their own supplies and may bring what they typically use to class. Instructor Sal Villagran
Sal earned his BFA from Laguna College of Art and Design in 2002 and obtained his MFA Cum Laude from the New York Academy of Art in 2005. Sal’s work has been collected nationally through private commissions. He holds professional relationships with art galleries and enjoys continued patronage from dedicated collectors.

Summer Portrait Sculpture

STUDIO: MC11
AGES: 16 and above

INSTRUCTORS: Brittany Ryan and James Galindo

TUITION: $200.00 (Due by June 9th)

Summer Portrait Sculpture

This classical sculpture course will introduce students to the study of the portrait as a sculptural form with emphasis on anatomy and construction by direct observation of the model. Students examine problems of visual conceptualization of the figure while developing clay modeling skills and techniques. Students receive individualized instruction and are encouraged to work at their own pace. In-class demonstrations will be done using oil based clay. The college will provide student’s clay and armature that students can take home at the end of the class.  Students will need to furnish their own sculpture tools that are listed in the below materials list. Instructor Brittany Ryan

Brittany Ryan received her formal education at the Laguna College of Art and Design, graduating in 2005 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, majoring in Illustration and a minor in Sculpture.  She also received her Masters of Fine Art in drawing and painting at the same institution.  Brittany currently lives and works in Southern California is an instructor at Laguna College of Art and Design.

Instructor James Galindo

James Galindo works and lives in Laguna Beach where he teaches drawing and painting at Laguna College of Art and Design. Galindo’s work has been featured in Southwest Art Magazine’s 21 under 31, and American Art Magazine’s 12 Artists to look for in 2012.  He was nominated for Artist of the Year by the Laguna Beach Alliance for the Arts in 2016
