Archives + Special Collections

The archives of Laguna College of Art + Design document the history of the college from its early years as a community arts education school located on the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts grounds to its present day activities and multiple campus sites located along Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach, California.

Archives

While the archives contain materials which date from the time of the College’s founding in 1961, the bulk of the collection dates from 1979 to the present due to a loss of campus records from a fire which destroyed the administration building in early January 1979. Printed materials, administrative records, and visual images comprise a good portion of the College archives, but the collection also includes MFA theses, oversized materials (including posters and blueprints), and artifacts.

Ever expanding, the development and growth of the LCAD archives remains a work in progress. Additions to the archives frequently come in from campus offices, and we encourage alumni, faculty members, and community members who have materials related to the College’s history to donate them as well.

The LCAD archives are available for consultation in the Dennis and Leslie Power Library; for more information, please direct inquiries to a member of the library staff or to libcheckout@lcad.edu.

Leave Your Legacy

The Dennis and Leslie Power Library, located on the main campus of the Laguna College of Art + Design, also maintains the college archives. The archives represent the college’s historic records. This encompasses work created by all those associated with the college which includes students, faculty, alumni, and staff members. When you contribute your work of quality to the archives, this gives you the opportunity to “Leave Your Legacy” for future generations.

If you are interested in the Leave Your Legacy program, please visit the library or send an email with any questions or digital images to archives@lcad.edu.
