POST BACCALAUREATE IN DRAWING AND PAINTING
The Post Baccalaureate in Drawing and Painting at Laguna College of Art + Design is a one-year, 30 unit program designed to prepare the student for professional activities or to progress to an MFA program in studio art. In accordance with Laguna College's aesthetic philosophy, our program focuses on the skills associated with representational drawing and painting. Our program recognizes that not all Bachelor’s Degree programs in art offer instruction in these skills; it is the goal of our Post Baccalaureate to address this deficit. The Post Baccalaureate is also intended to give the student time to develop individual content in their studio practice before embarking on a professional career or pursuing the terminal degree in their field. Candidates for the Post Baccalaureate are those who have earned a Bachelor’s Degree with some study in studio art and who have begun to define their professional aspirations. Students are admitted on the basis of undergraduate GPA, demonstrated skills, conceptual direction and a willingness to apply new information to their studio work.
Goals for the program include an increase in the technical proficiency of the student, a broader knowledge of historical and contemporary practice in the field of representational art and a more finely honed and sophisticated conceptual basis for independent investigations. Students draw on the resources of Laguna College’s focused BFA program in Drawing and Painting to address specific needs in their studio practice. Additionally, the student will take Art History courses devoted to issues in representational art and earn independent study units with graduate faculty to afford an opportunity for individual research.
The Post Baccalaureate program at LCAD is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
