John Kricfalusi is the creator of The Ren & Stimpy Show, its adults-only spin-off Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon, The Ripping Friends animated series, and Weekend Pussy Hunt, which was billed as “the world’s first interactive, web-based cartoon,” as well as the founder of animation studio Spümcø. Original drawings, animated cels, videos and more will be featured in this upcoming exhibition.

ALIVE – Moving Nature

Featuring Misako Inaoka, Ellen Jantzen, Barry Underwood and Elizabeth Turk

November 7-December 19, 2013

Curated by LCAD Gallery Director, Andrea Harris-McGee in collaboration with Laguna Art Museum’s Art & Nature initiative.

Ellen Jantzen: Jantzen creates ephemeral assemblages to use in her photography and her desire to work three dimensionally is fulfilled through this process.

Barry Underwood: Underwood’s work examines community and land-use in rural, suburban and urban sites. Underwood alters the sites with LED lighting and the alterations appear as intrusions, transforming the landscape into abstract images.

Misako Inaoka: Inaoka’s interests arise from the boundary between what we call “natural” and “artificial.”  What Inaoka recognizes as natural survives in different forms, by adapting, adjusting and mutating to its new urban setting.

Elizabeth Turk: Turk’s artwork examines the strength and fragility of nature. Turk is a McArthur Fellow and an acclaimed sculpture. Turk also works in media that include photography, printmaking, drawing, video and mixed media installation. Her latest series of Mandalas inspired by her artist residency hosted by the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC will be featured for the first time in this exhibition at LCAD ON FOREST.
