November 6 – December 15, 2014
Reception: December 4, 2014, 6-9pm
The BFA program in Illustration at Laguna College of Art and Design believes that introducing our community of artists, designers and art enthusiast to the world’s most influential illustrators is its responsibility. It is with great pride that LCAD presents The Art and Illustration of Sandy Dvore, A Hollywood Legend.
One of Hollywood’s living legends, Sandy Dvore, is an Emmy Award-winning artist responsible for such instantly recognizable cultural icons as the Solo Cup and United Artists logos. Dvore is also the man who created the opening titles for The Partridge Family, The Waltons, Police Story and Carol, Carl, Whoopi & Robin. His animated billboard art along Sunset Boulevard, for the movie Lipstick, quite literally stopped traffic. Dvore is also the creator of The Young and the Restless logo, one of the most familiar images on TV today.
For more than forty years, Sandy Dvore has been creating visual images for print, television and film. He is a creative force that has mastered all media to bring his artistic vision to fruition. An illustrator, graphic designer and visual innovator, he has created distinct and authentic designs his entire career.
Dvore first made his mark in Hollywood in the 1960’s. The ads he created appeared in leading entertainment publications such as Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Over the years, Dvore has illustrated many of Hollywood’s top celebrities for print ads, concert posters and television and film promotions. Some of Dvore’s favorite subjects include: Joey Heatherton, James Dean, Paul Newman, Barbara Bach, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Shirley MacLaine, Ann Margaret, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Rock Hudson, Barbra Streisand, Sally Field, Faye Dunaway, Josephine Baker, Bob Fosse, Kirk Douglas, Eddie Fisher, Andy Williams, Bobby Darin, Tony Curtis, Mick Jagger, Mel Brooks and David Bowie.
Dvore’s designs and illustrations were also used in various film industry promotions for such movies as: Chinatown, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice, Finian’s Rainbow, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Sybil, Columbo, Drugstore Cowboy, The Fabulous Baker Boys, 10, Silent Movie, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, Doctor Doolittle, The Great Escape, The Boston Strangler, Ice Station Zebra and more.
The Art and Illustration of Sandy Dvore, A Hollywood Legend, LCAD SPACE at Forest & Ocean Gallery will highlight an array of Dvore’s graphic designs, illustrations, creative commissions, logo design and work for magazines, film and television. The exhibition also will feature Dvore’s past and present non-commercial work, including watercolors, personal sketchbook drawings, sculpture, photography and music.
LCAD is honored to present one of Hollywood’s living legends, an icon in his own right. Please, join us for a special artist reception and meet Sandy Dvore.
